Truth About Web 2.0

February 9, 2009

Social Networking

Social Media 2.0, thats the new word that we hear now a days, Orkut, facebook,Twitter, Second Life , blogger etc.  I just wonder why the social media comes so popular and an effective medium for even in Marketing. So to get know more about the Social Media, i searched lots of blogs and articles.

During the early periods, the people are watching t.v shows for updating the upcoming products, or even news. During the calculations on 1990, 65% of the people are watching brand advertisements, but in 2000 it cut downs to 35% and now its hardly 10% .

From 2000 onwards the new era of social media arises. Social Media literally a conversation powered by  Blogs, Facebooks, Wikis, flikr etc.  It is a conversation with the people in the different parts of the World. The social media conversation is Not Organized, Not Controlled, and Not a message.

social media

To join the conversation, we need to be :

  • Present
  • We need to be listen the surroundings
  • If we listen we will learn,
  • Sometimes it may get messy
  • but it allow us to join the conversation.

Blogs are putting a pivotal role in Social Media 2.0. This is because,

  • The audience is creating
  • Audience is selecting
  • Audience is changing

Thus the internet became a place where  people could talk to other people  without any constraints, without any filters or official sanctions.  In the social media “Honesty is the only policy”, because we can find the truth, without any constraints.

Now the counting goes like this:

wikip logo

            Wiki – Almost 4,000,000 articles.

           You tube -   > 100,000,000 Videos

           (65,000 new videos per day)

            Blogs – 200,000,000 blogs registered

Some facts :

  • 73% of the active users read a blog
  • 45% have started their own blog.
  • 37% Subscribe to any RSS feed.
  • 57% have joined a social network.
  • 55% have uploaded photos in flickr or other services.
  • 83% have watched online Videos in YouTube like services.

“In 2008, if you’re not a member in Social Networking site, You’re not on the Internet”.

Before the era of blogs or Web 2.0 the older communication model was Monologue.

But in the new communication model is Dialogue.

This dialogue mode communication is

  • Transparent
  • Authentic
  • Vibrant
  • Consumer-Driven

“Blog is about conversations, and the best communicators start as the best listeners”.

So want to be a blogger, first of all be a listener, then participate. Only a good listener can be a good blogger.

“Tomorrow’s consumers are today’s DIGITAL NATIVES”.
